The family was incarcerated in Gila River, Arizona after WWII broke out. In camp, Alice volunteered for the Cadet Nurse Corps and attended nursing school in Madison, Wisconsin. All three of her brothers served in the 442nd Regimental Combat Team. Alice led a long nursing career, traveling around the country for work. Nearly 120,000 Japanese Americans were uprooted from their West Coast homes with the signing of Executive Order 9066 in February of 1942 and sent to inland concentration camps for four to five years.
